Painting is my second act.

After a 30-year corporate career, I returned to the pursuit of art, my college major. Immediately I became absorbed in the visual process, and time flew by in the studio. Although the product was disappointing at first, I was so engrossed in the process that it never occurred to me to give up.

Now, “10,000 hours” later, I make portrait, still life, and landscape paintings. My work is highly representational, and I usually work from direct observation.

In my recent still life paintings I have chosen a smaller 8”x8” format that allows me to focus on subtleties of light, color and reflection. It’s as if these paintings come from a quieter place in me as I seek to capture a simple perception or moment. In my landscapes, I am drawn especially to sky reflections in the Westport River where we spend summers.
